Inverted Kaluts scratch Iran desert

Rageh valley is one of the rare and natural phenomena of Rafsanjan city in Iran’s Kerman Province.

The valley is a geopark that appears to be a deep wound scratching the smooth surface of the desert when viewed from above.

It streches over 20 kilometers, dating back to some 20,000 years ago.

Rageh valley is an example of erosional rock formation, and it has been there since the Quaternary Period.

The eroded soil in the valley has created stunning inverted Kaluts, which are a succession of hills carved over time by the wind.

This valley is on the way to two world-renowned sites in the province—Shahdad Kaluts and Maimand rocky village.

Shahdad desert is located in the Dasht-e Lut, with the latter registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
